Melanocyte nevus-mole is one of the most common bening skin formations. There's almost no person who doesn’t have at least one nevus on his body. Moles are local proliferation of melanocytes (nevomelanocytes).
There are two main types of mole compared to the time of onset — inherited and acquired.
What's a mole review?
The most common, highly-specialised method used by dermatologists is dermatoscopy.
Dermoscopy is a non-invasive method that allows in vivo evaluation of the colour and microstructure of the epidermis, dermoepidermal coupling and the papillary derm, which are not visible to the naked eye. These structures relate specifically to the histological characteristics.
The use of such a technique is valuable in diagnosing pigmentary, hypopigmented or depigmented skin lesions. Due to its complexity, this methodology is reserved for experienced clinicians.
Do patients have to observe their moles?
YES! Every man should at least be two or three months old to look at his body. The main things to be considered are the change in colour, shape and size of the mole.
My Nevus's changed! What do I do?
If the patient has noticed a change in any of the characteristics of his moles, he should immediately contact a dermatologist (dermatosurgeon). If the doctor confirms that there is doubt about the nature of a nevus, then the most appropriate option is to proceed with the surgical excision of it, with subsequent dermatohistopathological examination.
Even if there has already been a malignant change of nevus, early diagnosis and timely surgery in 99% of cases lead to a complete cure of the patient.
